Weather factors for the effectiveness of Ethephon

The release of ethylene from ethephon solution is not only closely related to pH value, but also related to external environmental conditions such as temperature, light, humidity, etc., so be sure to pay attention to this problem in use.

(1) Temperature problem

The decomposition of ethephon increases with increasing temperature. According to the test, under alkaline conditions, ethephon can be completely decomposed and released in boiling water for 40 minutes, leaving chlorides and phosphates. It has been proved by practice that the effect of ethephon on crops is related to the temperature at that time. Generally, it is necessary to maintain a suitable temperature for a certain period of time after treatment to have an obvious effect, and within a certain temperature range, the effect increases with the increase of temperature.

For example, ethephon has a good effect on the ripening of cotton bolls at a temperature of 25 °C; 20~25 °C also has a certain effect; below 20 °C, the effect of ripening is very poor. This is because ethylene needs suitable temperature conditions in the process of participating in plant physiological and biochemical activities. At the same time, within a certain temperature range, the amount of ethephon entering the plant increases with the increase of temperature. In addition, higher temperature can accelerate the movement of ethephon in the plant. Therefore, suitable temperature conditions can improve the application effect of ethephon.

(2) Lighting problems

A certain light intensity can promote the absorption and utilization of ethephon by plants. Under light conditions, the photosynthesis and transpiration of plants are strengthened, which is conducive to the conduction of ethephon with the transportation of organic substances, and the stomata of the leaves are open to facilitate the entry of ethephon into the leaves. Therefore, plants should use ethephon in sunny days. However, if the light is too strong, the ethephon liquid sprayed on the leaves is easy to dry, which will affect the absorption of ethephon by the leaves. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid spraying under the hot and strong light at noon in summer.

(3) Air humidity, wind and rainfall

The air humidity will also affect the absorption of ethephon by plants. The higher humidity is not easy for the liquid to dry, which is convenient for ethephon to enter the plant. If the humidity is too low, the liquid will dry quickly on the leaf surface, which will affect the amount of ethephon entering the plant. . It is better to spray ethephon with a breeze. The wind is strong, the liquid will be scattered with the wind, and the utilization efficiency is low. Therefore, it is necessary to choose a sunny day with small wind.

There should be no rain within 6 hours after spraying, so as to avoid the ethephon being washed away by the rain and affecting the efficacy.
