Is Spinosad harmful to beneficial insects?

As a broad-spectrum Biopesticide, spinosad has far more insecticidal activity than organophosphorus, Carbamate, Cyclopentadiene and other insecticides,The pests that it can effectively control include Lepidoptera, Fly and Thrips pests, and it also has a certain toxic effect on certain specific species of pests in Beetle, Orthoptera, Hymenoptera, Isoptera, Flea, Lepidoptera and Rodent, but the control effect on piercing mouthparts insects and mites is not ideal.

The second generation of spinosad has a wider insecticidal spectrum than the first generation of spinosad, especially when used on fruit trees. It can control some important pests such as the apple moth on pear fruit trees, but the first generation of multi fungicides cannot control the occurrence of this pest.Other pests that this insecticide can control include pear fruit borers, leafroller moths, thrips, and leafminer moths on fruits, nuts, grapes, and vegetables.

Spinosad has high selectivity for beneficial insects. Research has shown that spinosad can be quickly absorbed and widely metabolized in animals such as rats, dogs, and cats.According to reports, within 48 hours, 60% to 80% of the spinosad or its metabolites are excreted through urine or feces. The content of spinosad is highest in animal adipose tissue, followed by liver, kidney, milk, and muscle tissue. The residual amount of spinosad in animals is mainly metabolized by N2 Demethylation, O2 Demethylation and hydroxylation.

Usages:

  1. To control Diamondback moth, use 2.5% suspension 1000-1500 times of liquid to evenly spray in the peak stage of young larvae, or use 2.5% suspension 33-50ml to 20-50kg of water every 667 square meters spray.
  2. For the control of beet armyworm, water spray with 2.5% suspending agent 50-100ml per 667 square meters at the early larval stage, and the best effect is in the evening.
  3. To prevent and control thrips, every 667 square meters, use 2.5% suspending agent 33-50ml to spray water, or use 2.5% suspending agent 1000-1500 times of liquid to evenly spray, focusing on young tissues such as flowers, young fruits, tips and shoots.

Precautions:

  1. May be toxic to fish or other aquatic organisms, and pollution of water sources and ponds should be avoided.
  2. Store the medication in a cool and dry place.
  3. The time between the last application and harvest is 7 days. Avoid encountering rainfall within 24 hours after spraying.
  4. Attention should be paid to personal safety protection. If it splashes into the eyes, immediately rinse with plenty of water. If in contact with skin or clothing, wash with plenty of water or soapy water. If taken by mistake, do not induce vomiting on your own, do not feed anything or induce vomiting to patients who are not awake or have spasms. The patient should be immediately sent to the hospital for treatment.
