Development status and characteristics of flonicamid

Flonicamid is a pyridine amide (or nicotinamide) insecticide discovered by Ishihara Sangyo Co., Ltd. of Japan. It can effectively control piercing-sucking pests on a wide range of crops, and has a good penetration effect, especially for aphids. Efficient. Its mechanism of action is novel, it has no cross-resistance with other pesticides currently on the market, and it has low toxicity to bees.
It can penetrate from roots to stems and leaves, but the penetration from leaves to stems and roots is relatively weak. The agent works by hindering the sucking action of the pest. Pests stop sucking soon after ingesting the pesticide, and eventually die of starvation. According to the electronic analysis of insect sucking behavior, this agent can make the mouth needle tissue of sucking pests such as aphids unable to insert into the plant tissue and become effective.
The mechanism of action of flonicamid and its application
Flonicamid has a novel mechanism of action, and has good neurotoxicity and rapid antifeeding activity against piercing-sucking pests such as aphids. Its blocking effect on aphid needles makes it similar to pymetrozine, but it does not enhance spontaneous contraction of the foregut of migratory locusts like pymetrozine; it is neurotoxic, but is a typical target of nerve agents Acetylcholinesterase and nicotinic acetylcholine receptors have no effect. The International Action Committee on Insecticide Resistance has classified flonicamid in Category 9C: Selective Homopteran Antifeedants, and it is the only member of this group of products. “Sole member” means it has no cross-resistance with other pesticides.
Flonicamid is selective, systemic, has strong osmotic effect, and has a long lasting effect. It can be used in fruit trees, cereals, potatoes, rice, cotton, vegetables, beans, cucumbers, eggplants, melons, tea trees and ornamental plants, etc. Controlling sucking mouthpart pests, such as aphids, whiteflies, brown planthoppers, thrips and leafhoppers, etc., among which it has special effects on aphids.

    Features of Flonicamid:
1. Various modes of action. It has the functions of contact killing, stomach poisoning and antifeeding. It mainly hinders the normal intake of sap by the stomach poisoning effect, and the phenomenon of antifeeding occurs and death occurs.
2. Good penetration and conductivity. The liquid medicine has strong permeability in plants, and can also penetrate from roots to stems and leaves, which has a good protective effect on new leaves and new tissues of crops, and can effectively control pests in different parts of crops.
3. Quick onset and control of hazards. The piercing-sucking pests stop sucking and feeding within 0.5 to 1 hour after inhaling the plant sap containing flonicamid, and no excrement will appear at the same time.
4. The validity period is long. The pests began to die 2 to 3 days after spraying, showing a slow quick-acting effect, but the lasting effect was up to 14 days, which was better than other nicotinic products.
5. Good safety. This product has no effect on aquatic animals and plants. Safe to crops at recommended doses, no phytotoxicity. It is friendly to beneficial insects and natural enemies, and safe to bees. Especially suitable for use in pollination greenhouses.
