What are the essential things you should know about Abamectin?

Abamectin is mainly used to control Plutella xylostella, Pieris rapae, Spodoptera exigua, Spodoptera litura, leafminers, leaf rollers, Manduca sexta, root-knot nematodes, aphids and various pest mites. Its mode of action is to stimulate the release of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which inhibits nerve conduction in pests, eventually leading to pest paralysis, feeding cessation and death.

Pests with Optimal Control Efficacy of Abamectin

1. Pest Control Spectrum

Abamectin can be applied to control Plutella xylostella, Pieris rapae, leaf miners, Liriomyza spp., Spodoptera exigua, Spodoptera litura, Phyllonorycter ringoniella, leafminer moths, leaf roller moths, Heliothis virescens, Manduca sexta, root-knot nematodes, aphids and all kinds of pest mites (including Hawthorn Spider Mite, European Red Mite, Two-spotted Spider Mite, Citrus Red Mite, Rust Mite, Pear Psylla, etc.).

2. Mode of Action

Abamectin targets the GABAA receptors at neuronal synapses or neuromuscular synapses of insects, disrupting signal transmission at insect nerve terminals. It stimulates nerve terminals to release the neurotransmitter inhibitor γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), activates GABA-gated chloride ion channels and prolongs their opening time. Massive influx of chloride ions causes hyperpolarization of nerve membrane potential, keeping the nerve membrane in an inhibitory state. This blocks signal communication between nerve terminals and muscles, resulting in paralysis, feeding cessation and death of pests.

Application Methods of Abamectin

  1. For control of diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) and imported cabbageworm (Pieris rapae): Spray the mixture of 2% Abamectin EC diluted 1000–1500 times + 1% Emamectin Benzoate diluted 1000 times at the young larval stage.
  2. For control of apple leafminer, leaf miner moths, leafminer flies, American serpentine leafminer and whitefly: Spray 1.8% Abamectin EC diluted 3000–5000 times mixed with high-efficiency cypermethrin diluted 1000 times during peak egg hatching and larval outbreak period.
  3. For control of beet armyworm (Spodoptera exigua): Spray 1.8% Abamectin EC diluted 1000 times.
  4. For control of spider mites, yellow tea mites, gall mites and aphids on fruit trees, vegetables and grain crops: Spray 1.8% Abamectin EC diluted 4000–6000 times.
  5. For control of vegetable root-knot nematode disease: Drench roots with 500 mL of 1.8% Abamectin EC diluted with water per mu.
  6. For control of cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera): Dilute 60 mL of 1.8% Abamectin EC with 50–60 kg water per mu and spray thoroughly during peak egg hatching period.
  7. For control of pear psylla: Spray 1.8% Abamectin EC diluted 6000–8000 times.
  8. For control of flower aphids, scale insects and thrips: Dilute 30–50 mL of 1.8% Abamectin EC with water per mu and spray.
  9. For control of rice leaf roller (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis): Dilute 30–45 mL of 2.2% Abamectin EW with water per mu and spray.
