Permethrin is a pyrethroid, it can active against a broad range of pests including lice, ticks, fleas, mites, and other arthropods. It can effectively acts on the nerve cell membrane to disrupt the sodium channel current by which the polarization of the membrane is regulated. Delayed repolarization and paralysis of the pests are the consequences of this disturbance.Permethrin is a pediculicide available in over-the-counter (OTC) medicines that kill head lice and their eggs and prevent re-infestation for up to 14 days. The active ingredient permethrin is for head lice only and is not intended to treat pubic lice. Permethrin can be found in single-ingredient head lice treatments.
