Thidiazuron is a new type of highly efficient cytokinin, which can better promote bud differentiation in plants when used in tissue culture. It is of low toxicity to humans and animals and is suitable for use as a defoliant for cotton. Thidiazuron, also known as defoliating agent, defoliating urea, Dropp, and thidiazuron TDZ, is a new and highly efficient cytokinin that can better promote bud differentiation in plants when used in tissue culture. It belongs to the heterocyclic aromatic urea class and is a compound with special plant growth regulatory effects, used for defoliation and ripening of cotton. It is absorbed through the leaves of cotton and affects the three main plant hormones in plants – ethylene, auxin and cytokinin, promoting the formation of natural stratification between the stems, leaves and petioles of cotton, which leads to the shedding of cotton leaves.

Advantages of Thidiazuron

1. After using thidiazuron, it can cause the cotton plant itself to produce abscisic acid and ethylene, which will lead to the formation of an abscission layer between the petiole and the cotton plant, causing the cotton leaves to fall off on their own.

 2. Thidiazuron can quickly transfer nutrients to the young cotton bolls in the upper part of the plant while the leaves are still green, and the cotton plant will not die, achieving multi-effects of ripening, defoliation, increased yield, and increased quality.

The efficacy of thidiazuron lasts for a long time, and the leaves will fall off when they are green, completely solving the problem of “withering but not falling”, reducing the pollution of leaves to machine-picked cotton, and improving the quality and efficiency of mechanized cotton picking operations.
