The Wonderful Application of Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium in Aquaculture

During the breeding process, it is essential to understand sulfonamide drugs, especially Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium, which is the most widely used and the largest dosage among all sulfonamide drugs.

1. Mechanism of action and characteristics

Mechanism of action: Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium has the strongest antibacterial activity among sulfonamide drugs and has a wide antibacterial spectrum. It achieves antibacterial effects by influencing the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins.

Characteristics: The solution is strongly alkaline. Do not mix with acidic drugs. It is commonly available in compound preparations, in the form of injections and mixtures for feeding. Compared to single preparations, the compound preparations have much better effects.

II. Main Applications

Effective against various bacteria: It is effective against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, such as Streptococcus, Haemophilus parasuis disease, E. coli, Anaplasmosis, Toxoplasmosis, Infectious Bursal Disease, Pasteurellosis, etc., and their mixed infections.

Specific application in pig farming: Treating Streptococcus: For encephalitis-type, arthritis-type, and septicemia-type Streptococcus, sulfanilamide isoxazoline sodium combined with dexamethasone can be used for treatment. However, for encephalitis-type Streptococcus, Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium is more effective as it has a stronger penetration ability.

① Mainly targeting the encephalitis aspect, one side Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium, one side penicillin plus anaprinidine plus dexamethasone. Note that pregnant pigs, cattle, and sheep cannot receive dexamethasone. The first injection of Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium should be doubled. Mix sulfanilamide into the feed, add 3% sodium bicarbonate, because Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium is highly toxic, adding sodium bicarbonate to the feed can help purify the kidneys and detoxify.

② Preventing bloodworm disease: Bloodworm disease includes Toxoplasmosis, Anaplasmosis, etc. Use Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium combined with doxycycline for mixing into the feed, which can be used for the health care of fattening pigs. This plan is effective against Streptococcus, Toxoplasmosis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae of pigs, etc., and is also inexpensive.

③ Treating mixed infections with high fever: Mix Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium injection with phenylbutazone injection for intramuscular injection. It has a good effect on various fever caused by unknown reasons or mixed infections.

④ For stubborn high fever in pigs, the treatment can be done by using Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium on one hand, and chuanhu plus cefazolin on the other. Take it once a day for two consecutive days. The pig will recover.

⑤ For sows that refuse to eat after giving birth, the treatment with Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium and yinhuang injection plus cefazolin is also very effective.

⑥ In pig farms with a high incidence of streptococcus and stubborn conditions, the following plan can be used: Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium mixed with coated enrofloxacin for feeding, for 7 consecutive days. After that, wait for 15 to 20 days before feeding it again for 7 days. Repeat this process three times. This treatment method is extremely effective for treating streptococcus.

⑦ For pig tapeworm disease, tapeworm disease includes toxoplasmosis and eperythrozoonosis. These two types are difficult to distinguish and often co-infect. The characteristic is that pigs often have fever, with bleeding points and rust spots on the pores. When you rinse it with water, the blood can also be washed away. How to treat it? Plan; Scheme Mix together with Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium, doxycycline and 3% sodium bicarbonate to prepare the feed mixture. Use it for 7 consecutive days.

Of course, this plan is also recommended for piglets’ health care. Because Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium and doxycycline have a wide range of effects and are effective against streptococcus, toxoplasma, swine lung disease, mycoplasma, etc., and they are also relatively inexpensive.

III. Usage and Dosage

Compound Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium Injection: 10 ml per vial. Usually contains 1 gram of sulfamethazine and a certain amount of trimethoprim as a compound formulation. It is generally used for pigs weighing 100 pounds. The initial dose can be appropriately increased, and it is better to inject once in the morning and once in the evening.

Compound Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium Powder: Commonly used at a 10% concentration, containing trimethoprim. One kilogram can be mixed with about 1,000 pounds of feed. The specific dosage should be determined according to the actual situation, and attention should be paid to compatibility with other drugs.

IV. Notes

The dosage should be doubled for the first use. For example, when using sulfonamide drugs on a 100-catty pig, 15 – 20ml of 10% sulfonamide can be used in the morning and 10ml in the evening. Note that sulfonamide should not be used for a long time. It has high toxicity and long-term use may cause, for instance, yellowing of the pig’s body, slow growth, or even lead to stunted pigs, stunted cows, or stunted sheep, to avoid liver and kidney damage. After administration, baking soda can be added to the water to alleviate liver and kidney damage.

It cannot be used in combination with acidic drugs, such as amoxicillin, penicillin, and cephalosporin. Do not dilute these acidic drugs with sulfonamide drugs. Using them together will result in precipitation and loss of efficacy.

Pregnant pigs, cows, and sheep should use it with caution as it may cause miscarriage. For piglets, sulfonamide drugs should be used sparingly as it may inhibit growth. Once again, it is reminded that pregnant sows should avoid using sulfanilamide isoniazid sodium and Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium diphosphate. Sulfamonomethoxine Sodium can be used in small amounts when mixing feed.
