The third generation of nicotinic insecticides – dinotefuran

Now that we talk about the third-generation nicotinic insecticide dinotefuran, let’s first sort out the classification of nicotinic insecticides.

The first generation of nicotine products: imidacloprid, nitenpyram, acetamiprid, thiacloprid. The main intermediate is 2-chloro-5-chloromethylpyridine, which belongs to the chloropyridyl group.

Second-generation nicotine products: thiamethoxam), clothianidin. The main intermediate is 2-chloro-5-chloromethylthiazole, which belongs to the chlorothiazolyl group.

The third generation of nicotine products: dinotefuran, the tetrahydrofuran group replaces the chloro group, and does not contain halogen elements.

The mechanism of nicotine insecticidal action is to act on the nerve transmission system of insects, making them abnormally excited, paralyzing and dying, and also has the effects of contact killing and stomach poisoning. Compared with traditional nicotines, dinotefuran does not contain halogen elements, and its water solubility is stronger, which means that dinotefuran is more easily absorbed; and its oral toxicity to bees is only 1/4.6 of that of thiamethoxam , contact toxicity is half of thiamethoxam.

Registration
As of August 30, 2022, my country has 25 registration certificates for dinotefuran technical products; 164 registration certificates for single doses and 111 registration certificates for mixtures, including 51 sanitary insecticides.
The registered dosage forms include soluble granules, suspending agents, water-dispersible granules, suspended seed coating agents, granules, etc., and the single dosage content is 0.025%-70%.
Mixed products include pymetrozine, spirotetramat, pyridaben, bifenthrin, etc.
Common formula analysis
01 Dinotefuran + Pymetrozine
Pymetrozine has a very good systemic conduction effect, and dinotefuran’s quick-acting effect is the obvious advantage of this product. The two have different mechanisms of action. When used together, the insects die quickly and the effect lasts for a long time.02Dinotefuran + Spirotetramat

This formula is the nemesis formula of aphids, thrips, and whiteflies. In recent years, from the promotion and use of various places and user feedback, the effect is still very satisfactory.

03Dinotefuran + Pyriproxyfen

Pyriproxyfen is a high-efficiency ovicide, while dinotefuran is only effective for adults. The combination of the two can kill all eggs. This formula is an absolute golden partner.

04Dinotefuran + Pyrethroid Insecticides

This formula can greatly improve the insecticidal effect. The pyrethroid pesticides themselves are broad-spectrum insecticides. The combination of the two can reduce the rate of drug resistance, and can also treat flea beetle. It is a formula widely promoted by manufacturers in recent years.

Resolve resolution
The main intermediates of dinotefuran are tetrahydrofuran-3-methylamine and O-methyl-N-nitroisourea.

The production of tetrahydrofuran-3-methylamine is mainly concentrated in Zhejiang, Hubei and Jiangsu, and the production capacity is sufficient to meet the use of dinotefuran.

The production of O-methyl-N-nitroisourea is mainly concentrated in Hebei, Hubei and Jiangsu. It is the most critical intermediate of dinotefuran due to the dangerous process involved in nitrification.

Future Incremental AnalysisAlthough dinotefuran is currently not a high-volume product due to market promotion efforts and other reasons, we believe that as the price of dinotefuran has entered a historically low level, there will be considerable room for future growth.

01Dinotefuran has a wider insecticidal spectrum and application range, from pesticides to hygienic drugs, from small insects to large insects, and has a good control effect.

02Good mixability, dinotefuran can be mixed with a variety of insecticides and fungicides, which is convenient to use; the formulations are rich, and it can be made into granule fertilizer, seed coating agent for seed dressing, and suspension agent for spraying.

03Rice is used to control borers and planthoppers with one drug and two kills. It is cost-effective and will be a huge market opportunity for dinotefuran’s future growth.

04The popularity of flying prevention, dinotefuran is easily soluble in water, making it more suitable for large-scale use of flying prevention. The popularization of flying prevention will provide a rare market opportunity for the future development of dinotefuran.

05The D-enantiomer of dinotefuran mainly provides insecticidal activity, while the L-enantiomer is highly toxic to Italian honeybees. It is believed that with the breakthrough of purification technology, dinotefuran, which is more environmentally friendly, will break through its own development bottleneck.

06Focusing on niche crops, as leek maggots and garlic maggots become more resistant to common chemicals, dinotefuran has performed well in the control of maggot pests, and the application of dinotefuran in niche crops will also provide new markets and directions for the development of dinotefuran .

07Cost-effective improvement. The biggest obstacle affecting the growth of dinotefuran has always been the high price of the original drug and the relatively high application cost of the terminal preparation. However, the price of dinotefuran is currently at a relatively low level in history. With the decline in price, the price-performance ratio of dinotefuran has become more and more prominent. We believe that the improvement in price-performance ratio provides more possibilities for the future growth of dinotefuran.
