The new pesticides in the Pesticide Management Regulations refer to pesticides containing active ingredients that have not been approved and registered in China before. Due to the relatively high activity and safety of new pesticides, the dosage and frequency of application can be reduced to achieve reduced dosage and increased efficiency, which is conducive to the green development of agriculture and the promotion of quality agriculture.
Since 2020, China has approved a total of 32 new pesticide registrations (6 in 2020, 21 in 2021, and 5 from January to March 2023, excluding varieties limited to export registration but not allowed for domestic promotion). Among them, 8 types of 10 formulation products have been registered on fruit trees (including strawberries) (including 2 formulation products for each of the 2 new pesticides). This article analyzes its category, mechanism of action, dosage form, toxicity, registered crops and control objects, usage methods, precautions, etc., in order to provide reference for scientific drug use and safe production of fruit trees in China.
Characteristics of new pesticides:
1. The distribution of types is relatively complete
Since 2020, among the 8 new pesticides registered on fruit trees (including strawberries), including 2 insecticides, 1 acaricide, 4 fungicides, and 1 plant growth regulator, the distribution of species is relatively complete and uniform.
2. Biological pesticides dominate the mainstream
Among the 8 new pesticides, only 2 are chemical pesticides, accounting for 25%; There are 6 types of biopesticides, accounting for 75%. Among the 6 types of biopesticides, there are 3 microbial pesticides, 2 biochemical pesticides, and 1 plant-based pesticide. This indicates that the development pace of biopesticides in China is gradually accelerating.
3. The overall toxicity of the product is relatively low
Among the 10 formulation products, there are 7 low toxicity levels and 3 low toxicity levels. There are no moderate, high toxicity, or highly toxic products, and the overall safety is relatively high.
4. Most formulations are green and environmentally friendly
Among the 10 preparation products, there are 5 suspension agents (SC), 2 water dispersible granules (WG), 1 solvable agent (SL), 1 wettable powder (WP), and 1 volatile core (DR). Except for wettable powders, most of them belong to water-based, organic solvent-free, and environmentally friendly formulations, which meet the needs of modern agricultural development. Especially for volatile core products, there is no direct contact with fruit trees during application, and there is no risk of pesticide residues.
Since 2020, among the 8 new pesticides approved for registration on fruit trees in China, 2 chemical pesticides have been created by foreign enterprises, while domestic enterprises mainly focus on developing relatively low demand biopesticides. In recent years, from a global perspective, it has become increasingly difficult to create new pesticides that can meet the requirements of “efficiency, safety, and economy”, and the problem of resistance has become increasingly prominent.
