ISO has approved “phentiazolinone” as the new generic name for Corteva insecticides.

Geneva, March 23, 2026: The ISO 1750 standard maintenance body has approved fentiazoluron as the official common name for a new insecticide developed by Corteva Agriscience. This approval, effective March 9, 2026, marks the addition of a new member to the globally recognized nomenclature of plant protection molecules.
The chemical was identified as: [N′(Z)]-N-[2-fluoro-4-[1-[4-(trifluoromethoxy)phenyl]-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]phenyl]-N′-[3-[5-methyl-2-[(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)methyl]phenyl]-4-oxo-2-thiazolylmethylene]urea (CAS No. 2583740-14-9).
According to the ISO 1750 standard maintenance body, no objections were received during the standard review period for the proposed name. Therefore, the name “fentiazolonone” has been officially accepted and will be included in the March 2026 update of the ISO 1750:2023 XML dataset.
This approval is an important step in standardising terminology for new active ingredients and will help establish clearer communication between regulators, industry stakeholders and the global agricultural community.
