How to Use Pesticide Correctly?

The application of pesticides to prevent and control diseases, pests, weeds, and rodents is an important measure to achieve a bumper agricultural harvest. If used improperly, it can also pollute the environment and agricultural and livestock products, causing poisoning or death to humans and livestock.

Pesticide classification

According to the comprehensive toxicity evaluation (acute oral toxicity, dermal toxicity, chronic toxicity, etc.) of commonly used pesticides (raw materials) in agricultural production, they are divided into three categories: high toxicity, medium toxicity, and low toxicity.

1. High toxic pesticides include 3911, Suhua 203, 1605, Methyl 1605, 1059, Fenfencarb, Monocrofos, Phosphamide, Methamidophos, Isopropaphos, Trithion, omethoate, 401, etc.

2. Moderately toxic pesticides include fenitrothion, dimethoate, Daofengsan, ethion, imidophos, picophos, hexachlorocyclohexane, homopropyl hexachlorocyclohexane, toxaphene, chlordane, DDT, and chloramphenicol, etc.

3. Low toxicity pesticides include trichlorfon, marathon, acephate, phoxim, diclofenac, carbendazim, tobuzin, chloramphenicol, diazepam, chlorpyrifos, chlorpyrifos, glyphosate, etc.

High toxic pesticides can cause poisoning or death if exposed to very small amounts. Although the toxicity of medium and low toxicity pesticides is relatively low, frequent exposure and untimely rescue can also lead to death. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to safety when using pesticides.

Scope of Usage:

All varieties that have established “pesticide safety use standards” shall comply with the requirements of the “standards”. For varieties that have not yet established “standards”, the following provisions shall be implemented:

1. High toxic pesticides are not allowed to be used in crops such as vegetables, tea, fruit trees, and traditional Chinese medicine, and are not allowed to be used for the prevention and control of health pests and human and animal skin diseases. Except for rodenticides, they are not allowed to be used for toxic rodents.

2. High residue pesticides such as hexachlorocyclohexane, DDT, and chlordane are not allowed to be used on crops such as fruit trees, vegetables, tea trees, traditional Chinese medicine, tobacco, coffee, pepper, and citronella. Chlordane is only allowed for seed dressing and control of underground pests.

3. Chloramid can be used to control cotton spider, rice borer, and other pests. According to the research results on the toxicity of chlorpyrifos, its use should be controlled. During the entire growth period of rice, it is only allowed to be used once.Use 2 taels of 25% water per acre, with a minimum of 40 days from the harvesting period. Use 4 taels of 25% water per acre, with a minimum of 70 days from the harvesting period.

4. It is prohibited to use pesticides to poison fish, shrimp, frogs, and beneficial birds and animals.
